Encounters with the real, in particular what we really feel, are something we generally try to avoid. Art mediates the encounter, allowing us to get nearer to our longing and our loss, to risk more, to dare more. Yet for the maker, the exposure is not mediated; it is total and terrifying.

Making art means exposing interiority, exploding the myths of ease and casualness that sustain business identities and acquaintances. Interiority is compelling on a level that “usable information” can’t be. I’m not sure it’s possible to manage exposure on one hand and casual masking on the other, especially when the exposure is as public as the internet.
